Your mission
ABOUT THE ROLE
You will join the Circularity Gap Reporting Initiative team as an analyst. You will focus on conducting the analysis that measures the circularity performance of nations and regions. You have a background in Industrial Ecology and are proficient in Input-Output Analysis (IOA), Material Flow Accounting (MFA) and/or Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
In this role you will have the opportunity to channel your expertise and knowledge into the development of a strong analytical evidence base that will directly support policy makers in moving toward a circular economy.
You will bring practical knowledge of industrial ecology and strong analytical skills in IOA, MFA, and LCA to the team, working to deliver high quality and rigorous results. You will take the lead in identifying and bringing together various sources of publicly available national and sub-national datasets, and process this data to be used effectively in our models, projects and products. You will work alongside a dedicated team of researchers, writers, designers, communications specialists, and other industrial ecologists to bring the results of your analysis to life in Circularity Gap Reports. THE RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct macroeconomic assessments in-line with the Circularity Gap Report (CGR) methodology for nations, namely input output analysis, material flow accounting, and life cycle impact assessment.
Contribute to the development of the CGR methodology such that countries in new geographies can be analysed, new and improved metrics can be calculated
Define data needs to deliver specific analyses and insights on projects and products regarding circular economy and its impacts at different scales (e.g. global / national / sectoral /regional / city / neighbourhood)
Gather and structure data from public and private data sources, identify data gaps, and establish partnerships and collaborative projects with data companies to fill data gaps
Contribute to research and the development of structured analysis in our Built Environment program, Textiles program, and Finance program, as well as consulting projects with companies in various industries
Communicate and explain results to translate data analysis into understandable insights
Develop scripts in Python to standardise data processing to deliver insights and enable integration of data analysis methods in online tools and digital products
Your profile
PREFERRED BACKGROUND
A Masters Degree is required, preferably in a field related to the circular economy (e.g.industrial ecology, environmental science, life cycle analysis, etc.) and/or experience with data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science, etc.
Knowledge of:
Input-Output analysis and databases such as EXIOBASE, World Input-Output Database (WIOD), as well as a system of national accounts data
Sub-national level (e.g. city-level or region-level) Material Flow Analysis techniques and systems thinking
Life Cycle Assessment, life cycle inventories, and databases to calculate environmental impacts, embodied emissions, etc
Demonstrated experience :
Analysis and visualisation of materials flows and environmental impacts
Manipulating datasets and exchange transform load processes
Collaborative data science i.e. git, documentation, quality assurance
SQL, Python and cloud databases (AWS experience is great!)
Your work style
Self-starter (proactive and independent) with a proven ability to prioritize different assignments and tasks to meet deadlines
Analytical and detail-oriented, and fully capable of navigating and combining various datasets to pull out key insights
Experience in working cross-functionally across multiple stakeholders
An understanding of agile and scrum methodologies
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, while being flexible to evolving responsibilities and last-minute changes
Comfortable working in a collaborative environment
Ability to think outside of the box and creatively problem-solve
Excellent English written, visual and oral communication skills to translate the data into understandable insights

For this role, we are offering an initial 1-year contract for 32-40 hours per week, which may be extended depending on performance and funding opportunities.
