Your mission
We're currently seeking a talented individual to join us as a Data Team Lead. In this pivotal role, you'll be instrumental in guiding our team of industrial ecologists, data analysts, and quantitative researchers towards impactful outcomes in the field of circular economy and sustainability.


Team Leadership

  • Lead and manage a team of 3-7 industrial ecologists, data analysts and quantitative researchers. 

  • Provide coaching to and build the capacity and learning trajectories for your team.

  • Create a work environment and data culture for your team to flourish.


Content Management

  • Keep up to date with the latest research, methodologies and reporting requirements in the field of circular economy and related, and ensure your team is up to date too.

  • Collaborate with the team on the development and implementation of new methodologies

  • Implement proactive quality management plans across multiple projects and within the organisation. Track performance to identify root causes of issues and implement remedial actions. Serve as the escalation point for unresolved data issues

  • Maintain a data workflow that spans the various quantitative approaches applied


Delivery Management

  • Meet with Project Managers on a regular basis to ensure milestones are met and high quality outputs are delivered, and to ensure appropriate resources are assigned to meet project deliverables

  • Support the development of a data culture, nurture strong communications with your team, functional leads, project managers and all other stakeholders

  • Across projects, with clients and internal team members, manage process improvements, issue escalations, workloads and provide technical expertise to junior team members

  • Support the team in developing a strong data workflow


Client Relationships

  • Represent CE and your team at talks with clients and stakeholders, when necessary.

  • Alongside a project lead, act as the primary point of contact with clients on data deliverables. Support negotiations with clients on defining data deliverables, suitable work plans and budgets.


Your profile

Skills and Competencies

  • You are an experienced quantitative researcher or analyst with 5+ years of relevant experience, with some commercial experience, and can demonstrate experience in the coaching and management of colleagues. 

  • You have a background in data and analysis, applied economics, applied econometrics more generally but demonstrated work experience and exposure to industrial ecology, sustainability analysis and reporting OR You have a background in industrial ecology, environmental engineering, ecological economics, or related domains with work experience in data management and analysis

  • You can demonstrate some experience in managing projects, workflows and budgets, and in working with clients. You are eager to support the development of more junior researchers and analysts in this direction.

  • You are familiar with Python and SQL, and data workflows/management

  • You are practical and hands-on; the success of this role lies in its realised impact.

  • You can demonstrate some knowledge about key methods of environmental analysis (e.g. Material Flow Analysis, Life Cycle Analysis and Input-Output Analysis)

  • You  can demonstrate some knowledge and understanding of upcoming legislation such as the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD, CSDD, Taxonomy) 

  • You are able to work on and apply standards and frameworks such as SBTn, LEAP, GRI and/or CTI

  • You have excellent written and spoken communication skills in English;

Bonus:

  • Experience with machine learning approaches

  • Experience with software or digital product development

  • Knowledge of a variety of numerical modeling skills will be handy

  • Experience contributing to academic or non-academic publications
