We are a small and agile international team of passionate experts, based in Amsterdam. We are growing our impact through strategic partnerships with governments, businesses and international agencies and by scaling the insights we have developed over the last 10 years through data, tools and digital solutions. We offer Circle Scans to businesses, cities and nations, drawing on deep expertise, including in the areas of textiles, the built environment, finance, circular economy metrics and indicators, and on jobs and skills in the circular economy; the Circular Jobs Initiative. 


The Circular Jobs Initiative maximises the employment opportunities offered by the circular economy. This programme is central to our organisation's ambition to create positive social impact with the circular economy. We join forces with our teams working with city-level and national actors to ensure stakeholders designing and implementing circular economy interventions do so in ways that consciously safeguard and promote the rights and opportunities of the workforce. As an international thought leader on the topics of jobs and skills in the circular economy, we collaborate with actors across Europe and internationally to help ensure businesses and governments understand the circular economy and recognise that people and their skills are an essential lever for transforming our economies.


Your role in the Circle Economy team

As a consultant, you will help to run exciting projects and partnerships under the Circular Jobs Initiative. You will also work in close collaboration with teams acrossCircle Cities, and Circularity Gap Report programmes to help cities, national actors and businesses understand the employment needs and implications of the circular economy. You will manage small projects, conduct qualitative research, support the work of teams conducting quantitative research, and produce outputs that meet the needs of our clients. You will build strong internal and external relationships, helping to secure a place for an increasingly timely topic on the global agenda. 

Your profile

Who You Are :

We are looking for a highly motivated and effective researcher who can be a key player in a dedicated team. You are a natural communicator and an excellent stakeholder manager. You have a critical key and pragmatic approach, always holding the intended outcome in mind to ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards. You are agile, can translate complex issues into clear insights, and enjoy contributing to innovative projects. 

On the content level, you have expertise in and affinity with international development, labour market dynamics and related social and public policy. You already have experience or are looking forward to applying this knowledge in the context of the circular economy and sustainability more widely. You have worked in international environments in applied research and analysis, advocacy or consulting. You are practical, knowledgeable and skillful, and looking for a challenge to make an impact. You are passionate about environmental sustainability and social justice, and eager to be part of a team conducting cutting-edge research, advisory and advocacy work. You want to get your hands dirty to create practical interventions across cities and nations..


Key Responsibilities and Duties :

Research and writing
  • Carrying out and contributing to research on the labour market and material impact of the circular economy;

  • Analysing policy and other relevant literature to form recommendations and keep up to date with emerging developments in the field; 

  • Helping to develop and implement qualitative and mixed-method approaches;

  • Interpreting quantitative data and research and translating this into accessible written insights;

  • Writing and contributing to reports and other high-quality knowledge outputs. 


Stakeholder engagement

  • Expertly manage relationships with clients and partner organisations;

  • Setting up and running workshops and meetings as part of projects and/or other multi-stakeholders processes. 

  • Contributing and supporting in creating materials to represent Circle Economy in high-level forums, meetings and events. 

  • Building the capacity of stakeholders to understand and engage with the circular economy;

  • Contributing to communications activities, such as through blogs and other advocacy materials;

  • Work with Circle Economy’s R&D team to help drive the research agenda for the Circular Jobs Initiative.


Project management

  • Managing small projects and activities to deliver innovative client projects;

  • Contributing  to Circle Scans cities and through our Circularity Gap Reporting Initiative;

  • Collecting and organising stakeholder feedback and learning from projects as to inform the continuous development of our organisational strategy;

  • Supporting in business development through proposal development.

Skills and Competencies

Essential

  • You have 2+ years experience in research, advocacy or consulting.

  • You are a trained researcher with expertise in and affinity with international development and labour market issues,social and public policy, sustainable development, or industrial ecology. 

  • You already have experience or are looking forward to applying your knowledge of labour market issues in the context of the circular economy and sustainability more widely. 

  • You have strong qualitative research skills and are comfortable working with and interpreting economic statistics and outcomes of environmental impact assessments;

  • You have drafted publications and compelling outputs;

  • You are an excellent communicator, with experience working in international environments;

  • You are confident in building and growing relationships with external partners and stakeholders; 

  • You have excellent written and spoken communication skills in English, an additional language is a plus;

  • You are practical and knowledgeable, and looking for a challenge to make an impact. 

  • You have a hands-on mentality; the success of this programme lies in its impact.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of international developments and the ecosystem related to the circular economy;

  • Good understanding of material flow analysis, life cycle assessment, or other sustainability-related impact assessment approaches;

  • Experience in developing or applying indicators;

  • You are highly experienced in interpreting data and quantitative analysis methods to tell a compelling story, and translate insights into recommendations per different stakeholders.  

  • Experienced moderator and facilitator, on and offline; 

  • Demonstrated public speaking skills, in international contexts;

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in Dutch.

For this role, we are offering an initial 1-year contract for 36 to 40 hours per week.
